Desert Wildlife Circuit

The Thar Desert, beautiful, harsh and unrelenting is home to an amazing array of wilderness and wildlife. It is hard to believe that this dry “maru staal” (a Hindi word for Desert) support life. The area is huge and the Thar Desert as some of very nice places where one can sight and photography rare bird and wildlife. 

Suggested Places : New Delhi – Tal Chapper – Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary – Desert National Park – Bera – Jhalana – New Delhi.

New Delhi : Light birding upon arrival to set the pace for next day travel. Places which can be covered are : Sultanpur National Park : Located 37 km from New Delhi is the Sultanpur. The park is home many resident and migratory birds. The park is open to birding from October to June every year. Reaching there takes about 60 – 90 minutes from New Delhi City Centre (depending on the city traffic)

Tal Chapper : Rajasthan is a desert bordering state in India, home to very diverse animal and birdlife. When one travels South West of Indian capital lyies this non descriptive oasis of wilderness. Known as Black Buck Sanctuary, the place is situated in the dry district of Churu. Apart from wildlife, place is famous for raptors. A 6 to 7 hours’ drive is a must for sighting and photographing raptors.

Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary : Not very far from Bikaner, located over a hill the sanctuary has a beautiful lake very many birds and animals come to have a drink. The landscape is a very beautiful.

Jorbeer Vulture Conservation Reserve : It is a birders place with number of Vultures and raptors come down on the dumped carcasses of animals. Evening and morning are good time to visit due to the increase bird activity and the light is also perfect for a perfect photograph. Akal Wood Fossil Park & Karni Mata Rat Temple can be also be explored since they are not very far from the places mentioned in the tour plan.

Desert National Park : A wilderness jewel, lies in the heart of The Thar Desert, covering more than 3100 sq km is home to critically endangered Great India Bustard. The sand dunes and the wildlife add it charm where life exist in this harsh and unforgiving environment

Khichan : Most sort by the birders this place is a great place where every winters  Demoiselle Cranes come. A village Khichan  is a classic example of of man wildlife co-existence.

Bera : Lying not far from cities Jodhpur and Udaipur is Bera. There is water due to Jawai Dam and due to this the wildlife is in abundance. This place is a paradox of sort. You have temple visited by the people and leopards alike. An unique place to find and photograph the magnificent.

Jhalana : When we talk of jungle, what comes to our is dense jungle far away from cities. Well Jhalana defies all that, located not very far from the Jaipur Internal Airport is an incredible place to visit. Leopards are very cunning and shy animal, sighting them is an experience. Here the photographing them is possible as it has a healthy population of them.

Day 1 : New Delhi : Arrive in New Delhi and transfer to a hotel. Overnight in a hotel in New Delhi. Local sightseeing / Birding in nearby birding sanctuary. 
Day 2 : New Delhi – Tal Chapper  :  Drive or take train to Tal Chapper. After lunch leave for afternoon birding / Wildlife safari in the Black Buck Sanctuary. Overnight in a wildlife motel. 
Day 3 : Tal Chapper : Morning and Afternoon safari. Overnight in a wildlife motel. 
Day 4 : Tal Chapper – Bikaner : Early morning birding. After breakfast check out and drive to Bikaner. Upon arrival check in a hotel.
Day 5 : Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary : Morning and Afternoon wildlife & bird safari in the Sanctuary.
Day 6 : Jorbeer Vulture Conservation Reserve : Morning and Afternoon birding in the area. 
Day 7 : Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary or option of explore the surround areas like Akal Wood Fossil Park & Karni Mata Rat Temple.
Day 8 : Gajner WLS – Desert National Park : After breakfast leave fro Jaisalmer, the gateway to Desert National Park. 
Day 9 : Desert NP : Morning and Afternoon wildlife safari. The breakfast and lunch would in the field. Overnight in a hotel in Jaisalmer.
Day 10 : Desert NP : Morning and Afternoon wildlife safari. The breakfast and lunch would in the field. Overnight in a hotel in Jaisalmer.
Day 11 : Desert NP – Khichan : After breakfast, drive to Phalodi. Check in a motel. After lunch visit Khichan for Demoiselle Cranes. Overnight in Motel.
Day 12 : Khichan – Bera (Jawai) : Early morning visit to Khichan and return for breakfast. After breakfast leave for Bera (Jawai). Lunch enroutre. Upon arrival check in a hotel in Bera. Overnight in Bera. 
Day 13 : Bera : Morning & Evening Jungle safaris. Overnight in Bera.
Day 13 : Bera : Morning & Evening Jungle safaris. Overnight in Bera.
Day 14 : Bera – Jhalana (Jaipur) : Early morning jungle safari. After breakfast leave for Jaipur. Lunch enroute. ( Option to visit Pushkar on way) Check-in upon arrival. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 15 : Jhalana : Morning & Evening Jungle safaris. Overnight in Bera.
Day 16 : Jhalana : Morning & Evening Jungle safaris. Overnight in Bera.
Day 17 : Jhalana – New Delhi : Morning Jungle safari, after breakfast drive to New Delhi. Arrive in New Delhi by lunch time. Check-in a hotel upon arrival. Overnight in New Delhi
Day 18 : New Delhi : Transfer to International Airport. TOUR ENDS.
